Course Overview

The CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care prepares students for rewarding careers in childhood education. This course equips learners with the skills and knowledge to become leaders in early childhood education programs, responsible for designing and implementing curricula, maintaining compliance in service operations, and nurturing the development of children. Upon completion, graduates are qualified to work in child care centers, family day care, and other early education environments.

Admission Requirements

Ridge International College has the following entry requirements for eligible students:
For enrolment into the course International students must:
  1. Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.
  2. Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
  3. Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test.

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:

  • holding a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification.

         OR

  • CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

  Alternatively, individuals may hold:

  • An Australian diploma of Early Childhood and Care

      OR

  • An Australian diploma or certificate III in Children’s Services.

    AND

  • Demonstrate at least 12 months of cumulative employment (full-time equivalent) within the last 5 years in a regulated education and care service in Australia, supported by verifiable evidence.

    OR

  • Hold the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer

Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and have relevant work or life experience considered towards this qualification. Throughout your personal and professional life, you will have developed a broad range of skills and knowledge through employment, volunteer work, family responsibilities, and everyday activities. The evidence of these experiences can be assessed and may contribute to achieving this qualification. If you have previously completed the same unit, you may also be eligible to apply for a credit transfer. To request RPL or credit transfer, please indicate your preference on the application form or speak with our staff during the enrolment process. For further information, refer to the RPL and Credit Transfer Policy.

Delivery Arrangements

The qualification is delivered over 78 weeks comprising of: Six (6) terms of 10 weeks each (60 weeks total). Holiday breaks amounting to 18 weeks (as specified in the timetable) Students are required to attend 20 hours of classroom training per week. Homework is expected to be approximately 5 hours a week. The training and assessment schedule shows the weeks during which training is delivered and assessment conducted for each unit. The total amount of training provided being structured classroom sessions is 664 hours. Time scheduled for assessment in class is 296 hours. Homework which is unsupervised and may include research for assessments and general reading is expected to be on average 5 hours a week. A work placement is required as per Training Package requirements. However, Ridge International College students will be required to complete 300 hours of work placement as described under work placement arrangements.
